The Flyby 8/29/18 – Hancock Is 10 Years Old, Psychos

On the last episode of The Flyby, we celebrated the 20th anniversary of Blade, and in the process we were reminded about another black comic book hero who had an anniversary this year:  Hancock.  Assuming he stuck with the program, this alcoholic superman-wannabe would be 10 years sober as of July, which means he too had been superheroing long before Black Panther sent a thrill up people’s legs. It’s a little more understandable why people might have forgotten about Hancock in their rush to declare T’Challa the first of everything though, because unlike Blade, Hancock never got a sequel.  Despite having...

The Flyby 8/22/18 – Blade Turns 20

This week on The Flyby, we stop trying to ice skate uphill and instead choose to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Wesley Snipes donning a pair of black sunglasses and kicking some vampire ass.  That’s right fellow daywalkers, Blade turns 20 years old this week, even if certain bloggers would very much like you to think that Black Panther is the first and only black superhero movie to ever grace this world. In fact, while much ado was made about Wakanda this year, not only did Blade beat T’Challa to the punch by a couple decades, he got to the silver screen before almost...

The Flyby 8/15/18 – A Look Back at Supergirl (1984)

This week on The Flyby, we’re taking a trip in the Wayback Machine to 1984 to revisit Supergirl, the movie that attempted to do for the Girl of Steel what Richard Donner and Christopher Reeve did for Superman.  It was a fun campy adventure featuring Helen Slater as Supes’ older cousin, or at least that seems to be how Sarjex remembered it.  Cranky T-Rex on the other hand wasn’t even sure he had seen it at all, and while he was perfectly ok with that, it can never hurt to go check out a classic 80s movie, can it?...

The Flyby 8/8/18 – The 100 Finally Killed The Planet

This week on The Flyby, it’s time to discuss the season finale of The 100, which has been the CW’s most consistently good show since it’s now heading into season 6 without turning into a dumpster fire like all of the Arrowverse entries have at one point or another.  However this season hasn’t been without its issues, as Cranky and Sarjex have discussed before.  So tonight we’ll look at how well it wrapped things up, whether or not it has a worthy hook for another season, and what we thought about this season overall. Speaking of the Arrowverse, we have...

The Flyby 8/1/18 – The Death of Superman

This week on The Flyby, Sarjex and Cranky T-Rex tackle DC’s latest animated flick, The Death of Superman, which is yet another retelling of one of the most famous comic book stories of all time. It’s at least the second animated adaptation of the material, and the first half of a two parter, with the sequel focusing on the four heroes that attempted to take the Man of Steel’s place when he died in the comics until his eventual resurrection.  After all, when it comes to comic books nobody stays dead for long, even if at the time they weren’t in...
